FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is the difference between your work and traditional spa massage?
A: While a traditional spa massage often follows a set routine aimed purely at general relaxation, sessions at Sensibly Moved blend clinical structural knowledge with intuitive listening—what I call a "science and soul" approach. I target chronic holding patterns, myofascial restrictions, and TMJ or neck tension while actively supporting your nervous system to downshift. Every session is customized to what your tissues and body are asking for in that moment.
Q: What should I expect during my first session?
A: I always begin with a brief, grounded check-in to discuss your health history, current physical discomforts, goals, and any boundaries you wish to set. From there, you will have private time to undress to your comfort level and settle onto the heated table under comfortable draping. During hands-on work, communication is always welcomed, and I move at the pace of your nervous system.
Q: What should I wear and how does draping work?
A: Your comfort and sense of safety are paramount. You are invited to undress to whatever level feels comfortable for you—whether that means keeping undergarments on, wearing loose athletic clothing (such as shorts and a sports bra for myofascial movement), or undressing completely. You will be professionally draped with sheets and blankets at all times, and only the specific area being worked on will ever be uncovered.
Q: What is TMJ tension relief and how can it help my jaw?
A: Chronic clenching, grinding, and stress often manifest as severe tension in the jaw, temple, neck, and cranial base. TMJ-focused sessions work gently to release hypertonic muscles in the cheeks, jawline, neck, and shoulders—helping alleviate headaches, facial tension, and neck stiffness. Though it is not a substitute for corrective or rehabilitative therapies. When needed, I can provide referrals to other professionals who can further support your healing journey. (Note: All work is therapeutic tension relief aimed at wellness and comfort, not medical diagnosis or surgical rehabilitation).
Q: What does “trauma informed” and “intuitive” mean in a bodywork setting?
A: Trauma-informed bodywork means your bodily autonomy, consent, and pacing lead the session. We never force tissue release or push past what your body is ready to integrate. "Intuitive" means listening beneath the surface—paying attention to energetic resonance, breath, and subtle tissue feedback so your whole person (body, mind, and spirit) feels heard and supported.
Q: What techniques or modalities might be used during my appointment?
A: Depending on your unique goals and tissue presentation, sessions may integrate a combination of therapeutic deep tissue, gentle Myofascial Release, Active Release Techniques, breathwork guidance, and therapeutic silicone cupping. We choose tools collaboratively based on what serves your body best.
Q: How do I book an appointment?
A: All scheduling is managed smoothly and securely online through our booking platform, Vagaro. Simply visit our Services page and click the booking link to view real-time availability and reserve your session.
Q: Do you accept insurance HSA/FSA cards or provide super bills?
A: We do not bill health insurance directly, and our payment processor is currently unable to accept or process HSA or FSA debit cards. While I truly wish I could provide direct HSA processing or medical superbills, doing so requires specialized medical billing codes, software, and administrative systems that are not feasible for a small, independent solo practice.
Payment is due at the time of service via standard credit card, debit card, or cash. I am always more than happy to provide you with a detailed, itemized receipt upon request that you may submit to your plan for personal reimbursement review.
Q: what is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
A: We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice are subject to the full session fee. If an unexpected conflict arises on short notice, you are welcome to reschedule within 24 hours (for a future opening) or send a loved one or friend in your place to take your scheduled time. You can review our full Practice Policies for details.
